The Mitsubishi Eco-Friendly Lineup
The Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV has been a long time coming, and now it’s finally arrived at Mountaineer Mitsubishi. The eco-friendly model arrives as the new face of the Mitsubishi lineup, and not a moment too soon as the brand increases its focus on eco-friendly vehicles.

The Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV features a conventional gasoline engine paired with two electric motors and a single-gear transmission. In total, that powertrain produces an impressive 197 hp and 281 lb-ft of torque. The Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV takes capability to new heights with the manufacturer’s Super All-Wheel Control (S-AWC). Thanks to its impressive powertrain and capability, the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV can tow up to 1,500 lb, too.

A plug-in hybrid electric vehicle, the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV offers impressive fuel economy as well. The latest model earns up to an EPA-estimated 74 combined MPGe.*

Since it’s an advanced vehicle with an efficient powertrain, it should come as no surprise that the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV comes with multiple drive modes. Thanks to the three available modes, the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV is capable of optimizing performance and efficiency in varying driving conditions.

When the Outlander PHEV is powered by its Twin Electric Motors, it’s operating in EV Mode. In this mode, the electric motors are powered by the lithium-ion battery pack and the vehicle doesn’t produce any emissions.

Series Hybrid Mode kicks in when the battery pack is running low or more power is required. The two electric motors work with the gasoline engine to power the vehicle. The gasoline engine helps charge the lithium-ion battery.

When the gasoline engine sends power to the front wheels, the Outlander PHEV is operating in Parallel Hybrid Mode. In this mode, the electric motors operate when more power is required to climb hills or accelerate quickly.

Regardless of the drive mode, Regenerative Braking is active when the vehicle is coasting or the brake pedal is pressed. The system converts kinetic energy into electricity that is then stored in the battery.

The 2018 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV is the first plug-in hybrid electric vehicle to feature DC Fast Charging capabilities. Unlike Level 1 and 2 charging, which are primarily used at home, DC Fast Charging can quickly charge the battery to 80 percent capacity in as little as 25 minutes. That makes it ideal for running errands and taking longer road trips.

DC Fast Charging isn’t the only convenient technology in the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV. Drivers can download the free Outlander PHEV II app to control vehicle functions, such as heating or cooling the cabin and setting efficient charge times.
